may was a blur trying to juggle my job at OHSU, the census, and bothpieces. at ohsu i felt my feedback was ace, census started rough with a dog bite but i'm now getting "census sense" for different cases, and bothpieces finally has momentum (& clients!).

cooking & biking has suffered, but in the meantime we managed to fit in the last whitebird of the season, a denis brown lecture, kooza (followed by pedicab & bambuza), the high tea at pix, and my traditional memorial day at ground kontrol. we also watched the imaginarium of dr parnassus (bleh), hot fuzz (whoo!), and finished the first season of dollhouse (mmm!).

sven & i were supposed to be at the coast this weekend to celebrate bridget's birthday, but we are home recovering from terrible illnesses instead. sick took up about 20% of april. here's what else happened:

events:
bridget & anna & 23 sandy shows, easter eggs, toxic trash event, help kristen & todd move, abe's birthday party, michaelmas birthday, tax refund: $10, dinner w/ kristen & todd at ya holla (vegetarian feast followed by pie at bipartisan cafe), michaelmas' dad visited, we went to cirque du soleil... on the wrong day

[easter eggs]

[kristen & todd moving day crew]

[monty & michaelmas]

edibles:
exploration at the vita cafe's new location (and the place we suspect made us so sick), grilled cheese schoolbus, lomo w/ michaelmas & his dad (thanks, monty!), cha w/ michaelmas & his dad (thanks, monty!)

health:
my doctor checked me for cholesterol again. despite a change in eating habits and a lot more exercise, my numbers are worse than 2006. bummer. at least i have to worry less about whether starting a lipitor habit will affect my chances of getting health insurance in the future thanks to the health insurance law passing: when i was first searching for individual health insurance kaiser denied me because of one abnormal pap smear several years prior and so i've been very careful about what i want on the record at blue cross/blueshield. sven & i were violently ill this week and sven had an additional health scare which has been mostly cleared. my illness coincided with mandatory census training, and i was so sick i actually had to take a day off, even if it meant they would fire me for it (which they didn't, i'm happy to say). but i'm still not up to 100%.

rosebike:
biked to ebike store for the first time, which was an exciting meta accomplishment. i biked to taxes. i even biked to the doctor. i also biked to michaelmas a few times, which is beginning to feel almost normal. i got a higher capacity battery & charger so i can make it there and back without worry, and it turns out the route is pretty easy. i'm beginning to reach a point where if an errand i can bike to in an hour, i feel i might as well bike it rather than do a daily bike ride and then drive to the errand. that means i'm comfortable biking anywhere in SE, many parts of NE, downtown, and some parts of NW, and possibly thorough troutdale. michaelmas' dad tried rose out and he really enjoyed her: "this is something else!" he exclaimed.

jobs:
i just finished training for Non Response Follow Up census duties and even completed my first interview in the field. it went pretty well despite a language problem which required talking to three different people and waking someone up (sorry!). had a few roles at ohsu, too, and two weeks of them coming up in may. juggling the census with OHSU, bothpieces or other events is going to be fun because while they say the census is flexible, the expectation is that you'll check in every day. still, it's a delight to be paid for doing something fun! i got assigned to a district along the springwater corridor trail which is almost ideal for me. :)

movies:
imposter, dr. who specials, torchwood's children of earth, one episode of dollhouse but i want to see more, gran torino, ikiru
